Moolah

Here's a close-up of a new design we put together - dollars & stars on a Nike AF1. You can see how clean the sneakskin looks when applied.

Our first featured artist - Eekoorn!

We are very excited to introduce Jasmin Hagleitner, AKA Eekoorn, as our first ever featured artist. We caught up with Jasmin to find out more….

Tell us a little about yourself and where you come from..

Hi and thanks for the interview! I´m 23 years old and live in Tyrol/Austria. I work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for different clients. I´ve studied a few semesters architecture, and in fall 2009 I will begin a new study in Salzburg (Multimedia Art) which will be hopefully a very exciting time!

What are you currently working on?

I´m always working on dozens of projects at the same time! At the moment I´m working on my new homepage, a portfolio-book about my works in 2008/2009, a comic project, stickers for a company in Innsbruck, Flyers for a youth centre, and a new sneakart pattern, and...... ;)

What is your design ethos and inspiration?

I adore lot´s of artists, because art is so multilayered. I especially like this cute japanese style with it´s clean vectors and bright colours. But at present I´m also very impressed of a girl from hamburg a.k.a. "mioke". She is very talented in oil painting and her art suggests such a smooth calmness to me just like you get, when you go for a walk in the nature. Her paintings are very circumstantial, and when you look twice on them you still find things you haven´t spotted before.

What do you like about Sneakart?

I´m really happy that I´ve found a platform like this! As an illustrator and designer you´re really nuts about customizing everything, from your jeans to your sneakers! And sneakart offers you a professional and cunning solution! ;)

What are favourite sneakers and why?

When I was a kid I was "in love" with airwalk sneakers, but they don´t produce this kind of sneakers any more. Now I´m also quite happy with my good old chucks! I suppose it´s the white tip of the shoes (which make your feet look cute) I like most.

What do you think is the best design that you've submitted to sneakart?

I suppose it´s the "that´s life" - design, it sells well... I´m very fond of my cute and crazy symbols! And the bright colour on the black background is definitly an eye-catcher on white sneakers!

See more of Jasmin's work on her website and her flickr page. Check out Eekoorn's sneakart designs here.

Earn Royalties with sneakart!

We want to promote the best young artists around the world. Each month we will select an artist we love who has uploaded to sneakart. A featured artist has their work promoted on the homepage and has a great chance of earning more royalties. If you upload to sneakart you get a generous 10% of any sales made of your designs.

Customise your sneakart.com

It's a little known fact but along with your shoes it's also possible to customise our site. If you get bored with the blue background, just click on the link that says "select background/£ $ €" in the bottom left corner and choose something that suits your mood. You can even buy the patterns if they take your fancy.

What can you do with a photo?

We're getting our new retail packaging finalised (in stores soon) and playing about with some images. The pink and white picture actually uses a flower image but comes out like some kind of fur. We know the NY skyline has been done many a time but it shows what you can do with a great photo. See what you can upload at sneakart.com.

Emil Kozak book

We are in print! Sneakart has it's very own page in "One Day' by Emil Kozak, alongside fantastic artists such as Dave White, Tado and Jeremyville. The book takes a look at how graphics have become a visual soundtrack for our daily lives, and adorn everything from alarm clocks to skateboards. Buy it here.

Sneaker Seeker Winner!

Sneakart and Soleheaven went off for a little jaunt to Slough, UK to check out the results of the Sneaker Seeker project. Over 100 people attended the custom kicks workshops over several months and some amazing designs came out of it. It was really difficult to chose but we went with JC's design as the winner. Thanks to everyone to who took part and especially to Krissie from Future Culture who organised the entire event. More pics to follow soon.

More from Sneaker Seeker

Apparently the Sneakart customisation series of workshops have been super popular, being seriously oversubscribed and creating some great buzz for the Sneaker Seeker project.

The project examines creativity, heritage and identity with young people between the ages of 13-25 through the medium of kicks. The AF1s were kindly sourced by our friends at SoleHeaven, check them out if you're looking for cool new sneakers.

So far, over fifty young people have designed their very own free pair of Nike Air Force 1s and the sneakers will feature in a massive exhibition happening with Slough Museum from May 2009 onwards. Can't wait to see it.

Sneaker Seeker Workshop 2

Here's a little sample of some of the great designs coming out of the latest Sneaker Seeker Workshop. These skins were designed last week on paper, we printed them out on Sneakskin today and they'll be applied to some fresh AF1s on Wednesday. Can't wait to see the results.

Sneaker Seeker project under way

The Sneaker Seeker project is underway! Check out the great write up from Sneaker Freaker. Our very own Chris was on hand to guide people in their quest for sneakskinned sneaks. We'll post pictures of the final shoes as things progress, there are loads more workshops planned.

Barbed Safari

Did these a while ago and forgot to post the picture. Here are 2 different patterns sheets used on one panel to create the effect of a seam. I just created the template like normal then drew a line where I wanted to the seam. Think it looks quite good, might do it again with some different colours next time.

These are the shoes I'd like to do up next. Gorgeous and so perfect for sneakskin.

New homepage image

Playing around with a new homepage image today. We want to get across what sneakart is all about in one image, it's quite difficult. The team thought this was a bit confusing so it's not going up. The hand looks a bit like a strange bird....

One shoe, 9 different looks

This was my submission for the Sneaker Freaker Best of 2008 feature. It didn't make the cut but SF did say they liked the image. My favourite of all these designs is Blue Mischief and That's Life both by talented German artists.

Hey, we finally got round to choosing a winner. This is a Puma Basket done up in the winning design from our pumatalk competition. Thanks to Andy from Australia who'll be receiving these very soon. Check out the abstract skyline. Also comes in green.

Thanks also to everyone who entered, hope to get some more competitions going soon.
